Wellie's World - Distorted as it maybe

About Recent Entries

One for the tech geeks out there May. 17th, 2009 @ 08:18 am
OK I'm in the market for a webbook of some nature, been going through reviews and narrowed down to the usual suspect question is have any of you had personal experience with any of these and if so whats your verdict?

Primary choice at the mo is the Samsung N10 however in close position I have the following:
Samsung N110
Eee PC 1008HA (which might take some searching to find either a) In stock b) At a fair price)
Depending on timing might be able to hold out to see what the Samsung N310 is like ;-) Tho I think that something like that might be outside the price bracket

Outside runner is the Asus Eee PC 1000HE however this one is a VERY outside runner in my book due to keyboard.

Cheers for any input able to provide :-)

Also obviously open to alternatives to this list. Requirements are size/weight of the order of those above, budget £300-350(MAX!), specs again of the order of those above...

Many things to post so to summarise with details to follow later, maybe even at work depending how busy I am... ;-) (In no particular order)

1. For the win, long weekend in Sheffield
2. Guestlist + 1 to mini festival in London last week on the condition I write a review for a music mag/website
3. Lovey Aga.... (explaination will defo follow here)
4. Not for the win - Dad and Gran both being carted off to hospital last week in the same afternoon!
5. Possible 100+ gathering in Edinburgh in couple of weekends time - if can get time off work
6. Meeting Misha and Paddy this eve for a quite catch up and drinkie :-)

Think that covers most points now to dash for train into work... joy :-/
» "an update?!" I hear you cry...
ok so after a crazy weekend of gigs, housepartys and general social fun and games Im nackered but good. Rolled into the house gone 4am sat morn and gone 8am sun morn, having walked a total of about 26miles across London in 2 days and danced like a crazy man at a ska gig where the only people I knew were the band and their manager! hehe So that pretty much sums up the weekend... more details under cut for the sanity of those without an interest :-p

Gig: )

Yeah so looking like I should be back up in Sheffield either/and/or bank hol weekend(s) of May so anyone that might be about.... :-)

OK train tickets are booked I'll be in Sheffield 24th/25th Nov if anyone is about and wishes to meet for chat etc or if anything is happening that weekend? Never known you lot to missup on an excuse for a gathering....? :-) Thinking a proper post will follow in due course when Im not so nackered, been a 50-60hr week n full wknd ahead so thinkin it can wait a couple more days :-)
» Trip to shef....
Ok thinking about time I did a little trip to the North to see some people and get a fix of Sheffield again.... not so easy to just go cold turkey like that! lol So this is a heads up, will people be free to meet and be sociable on the 24th Nov, Im asking before I book the train tickets :-) Im also throwing out a request is there anyone who would be up for letting me crash on a sofa/floor etc for that night?

Thanks

Chris
» ok heads up people....
ok proper block update to follow at somepoint (when I actually find the time and energy to actually think about the wirlwind past few weeks or so...) but wanting some crital comments here... ok so Ive been experimenting with some different photography techniques recently some of which are hard to do without proper kit, i.e. true flash effects but tried all the same. I have also been told by a number of people that I dont ever seem to have a proper picture of myself about or have one to send if ever asked for one, mostly as im always the otherside of the lens! Here I have a couple of recent self portrait shots, pretty much unedited (i.e. photoshopped) other than to convert from raw to jpg and reduced quite a bit in resolution to fit online (strange that sites and email dont much like 4-5mb files...! hehe) Please comment if you feel you can enlighten me as to where I can improve or ideas for new trials... :-) Note all of these were done on a solo shoot with manual settings, manual focus and handheld manual flash off camera timer. Ok well the last of these is contrast and brightness tweeked for fun but nothing else :-) Behind cut to save bandwidth or for those who dont give a flyin f.... :-)

» A bank holiday update...
Ok firstly an update concerning my upcoming trip north, tickets are booked and plans are as follows:

Fri 7th- Taken half day off work as holiday in order to be in Shef in reasonable time, arriving mid-avo (14:45ish). Dumping stuff at T&M's place so I dont have to drag a load of stuff to pub and CORP! Enjoy myself with friends and good music... I HOPE! :-) Tom has kindly offered up crash space at his so thankfully thats sorted

Sat 8th - Anyone thats free hopefully will be meeting up for coffee catchup as long time no see, will be good to be back :-) Afternoon grabbing a lift off an old TSC friend up to Leeds for the 21st happening up there. Camping over at his with what apparently will be a fair few TSC and others.... expecting a mad evening! lol

Sun 9th - Busing it back to London in time for an early night before back to work :-/

All in all this should be hopefully a fantastic weekend of friends and good times

Now for a summary of the past weekend:
Sat - Nipped over to Hyde Park to see the finals of the Steel band competition, part of the Nottinghill Carnival. Pretty good and got some nice shots which will hopefully be up on the web at some point...

Sun - met up with some friends, new and old (inc Tracy who was back over from Dubai for the week), in camden before heading to Primrose Hill where the afternoon was passed in the sunshine, and where coconut bowls, bowling and cricket evolved...! Evening headed over with the group to a houseparty in Notts Hill, great times and some 'interesting' photos hehe

all for now as other jobs calling...
» (No Subject)
ok very brief post, something a little more complete will follow when I have time/be bothered :-) Ok so its looking like I'll be in Shef on the 7th Sept for Vicky's birthday and a trip to Corp. Taken half day off work that fri so that I can actually get there in time, before I head to Leeds on the Sat for a 21st. Now the question is are there any lovely ppl on here that will be involved on fri that could give me some crash space? As although I know enough ppl up there that would offer up I dont think they would like me knocking on their doors at x'o'clock in the morn! cheers... Ok now to get ready before heading into 'town' in time for the steel band competition this afternoon as part of the Nottinghill Carny this wknd :-)
» an update thats not really one...
OK so this isnt really an update but more of an advert, I am in the process of uploading pics to the web having finally got around to sorting out my flickr account (which I didnt realise was yahoo account governed and seeing as I already have one of these this was a pretty damn easier thing to do!) Note that those going up atm are only the rough cut, duplicates and dodgy ones inc! I am yet to go through and PS clean them up and pick out the cream of the crop as it were. So why you ask am I posting now, well I wanted to get something up asap if nothing else, also if any one has any critical comments to make, such as suggesting exposure (under/over) or whitebalance (too cold/hot) then please say as I welcome all forms of comment, I am afterall only just really learning and this was my first proper proper shoot really with the new kit (see last post!)... :-) Also note that due to upload limits etc these images are SCALED DOWN and POORER RESOLUTION than originals and final production are superior! hehe

NB: H&S warning - much squishy cutiness contained within hehe

ok already I hear you say wheres the damn link...?! Here you go:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/11238314@N07/show/

Enjoy and please feel free to comment! In addition there are a number of additional photos however it appears a standard account only allows 200 most recent images to be shown, may go for an upgrade who knows once Ive had a play....
» About time for an update I think...
Ok Ive been meaning to sit down and make a proper update for a couple of nights now and only really just got around to doing it! This I guess is as much for me keeping a note of what/why/how...etc I ended up where I am now doing what Im doing now. As most of you know or doubtless have heard through what ever means I am no longer living in Sheffield, instead I have (and some will say foolhardily) moved back south to London. Why? A simple case of being offered a job that sounded interesting and that was offering a salery etc that I couldnt really say no to :-/ A case of not having any better offers or future prospects within the next month or so by which time I was going to have to have moved out anyway so might as well be this...

Summary update:

March/April (ish I think) I went for an interview, later to be turned down due to lack of experience.
Early May, phone call, new position in said company arisen was I still interested - Of course I am! :-)
About 2 weds back letter of comfirmation arrives
Thurs/fri/sat, find series of possible accommodation places.
Sun travel to London
Mon look at said places
Weds say yes to one
Thurs work last TSC event (for a long time if ever), manics and what a damn good gig imoh, glad went out on a goodun, then worked Limelight well had to at some point lol
Fri dad came up, went out with him and a couple of friends to dev cat, a v nice chilled eve and good to spend some quality time with ppl especially my dad as not done that much
Sat drove to London with my stuff
Sun, wake up dazed wondering what the hell Ive done
Mon start work!

So there you have it summarised in a brief few lines, and to sum up what this shows:
End of an era - going to seriously miss Sheffield and have too many friends up there to stay away too long without visits lol (so dont be suprised if I call asking about some floor space... ;-))
New life - New job, new house, new housemates, new everything!
Regular income - One of main reasons for this rather than trying to make ends meet through crewing as much as wish had been able to.

Ok so now to a bit of an actual update to anyone thats interested hehe

Im now livinging in a great house in woolwich/plumstead in south east London, not bad area and within an easy commute to work around the corner from St Pauls. Still trying to get a feel for the area tho wont have proper time to do that till the weekend so a little exploration on sat I think... House is massive so ironically the inital plan of livingin a flat with no more than 1-2 others has gone to a 7bed house with, atm, 4 others rising to 5 this wknd and then when fill the other 2 rooms 8 in total. Housemates consist of a guy who works for save the children co-ordinating various operations in wartorn/emergency zones around the world, the daughter of the landlady and a lesbian couple (hence the 8ppl in 7 rooms) who are all cool :-)

Im going to be back in shef a wk sat to get whats left of my stuff from the old house that got left behind due to lack of space in car! Leaving on the sun so if anyone wants to meet up let me know who are about... :-)
» Move date... (ish)

Yet to hear confirmation about the position and yet I have recieved an email detailing start times for my first week of work so I guess this means that there hasnt been any problems with it (not that I was expecting any!) When I asked exactly what date I was to start on (only have times... :-/) I was sent this "Please can you let me know when you would like to start." Nice to have some control and flexibility isnt it hehe Waiting for them to confirm that the date I gave is ok but looking like Ill be starting on the 21st fingers crossed which means that I plan to be out of shef earlier that week meaning a leaving do will provisionally be weekend of 12th or 19th, would prefer the latter even tho would mean being in London only a day or 2 before starting just that I know with exams and what have you 12th might be difficult for most. Does anyone know any reason why these dates should be a major issue that I dont know about?

Cheers

» NEWS FLASH!
Ok so this is the 2nd time I've written this post, the 1st being yest when I didnt realise that the CMOS battery on this pc appears to have died and as such my post was dated some time back in 2001 and as such lost to the realms of LJ history...grrr!

Ok this is confirmation to those that already know and new news to those that dont :-)

Some may remember (aka see last post) that I went for a couple of interviews a few weeks back, well I eventually heard back from them and result, Im apparently an ideal candidate however someone else has more experience than me and as such didnt get.... thats until last week :-) Phone call out of the blue (assumed was sorting me out with another interview at 1st) saying that the company that I had really liked had created an additional position "was I still interested...?", only one answer to that, "HELL YEAH!" hehe I was as the time stood in the middle of the arena ice rink wearing shoes (explain later) so had to stop myself bouncing round the place! lol Salary confirmed, general package details given, and thats that, security clearance currently going through but looks like all things being well I'll be moving to the big L within the next 3-4 weeks! Im going to seriously miss this place I think, just starting to feel things getting better, enjoying Shef more than I think I have in a fair while but hey ho got to go where the work is and they are defo making it worth my while :-D Position will be working in Bank (Central London) round corner from St Paul's cathedral on behalf of the finance management company Schroders, nervous but looking forward to it.

Ok as for other recent activities Ive done about 120-130hrs work for various firms over past 2 wks in roles from Security @ Northern General (dont ask...) to crew at Arena inc twice (soon to be 3 times) working on the Dancing on Ice (think TV prog) rig, novel and great laugh rigging a pretty big lighting rig while slipping about on ice also a damn good lighting crew :-) Justin Timberlake was a fab rig as well, in the round with audience all the way round a central circular stage, v good (setup that is dont give a flyin f*ck about him ;-p) and smashed the average load out time, 24ish trucks in 2h40m aint bad is it?! hehe Thats despite a novice crew mostly comprising of extras that had only worked (if at all) on the Stones gig last yr n seeing as couple nearly killed themselves or others then was a little disconcerting! On subject of gigs its Deep Purple 2moz and then DoI again on fri...

On a final note I plan to hold a smallish do at mine in the coming weeks as a chance to say goodbye to those that have played a big part in my life over the past 5yrs so hoping most of you can come. Will let you know when I have something sorted :-)

Ok maybe about time for a quick update. Attended couple of job interviews down in London the other week, taking the opportunity to visit Claire and pop back to the folks for a bit as not seen in fair while. Was a nice break away tho ironically received couple of calls when in London asking if could work couple of gigs at various venues in the big L. Had to say no tho was a little gutted as one of them was The Who, however coming to Shef later this year so might catch then, just to say seen them :-) Nothing back from the interviews so guessing its a no go, oh well back to the hunt, tho talking of which its been a little lacking recently what with one thing and another. Headed down to a loadout at Earls Court for Razorlight (tho arrived too late to actually see any of the set: :-/) bit odd driving all the way down there (well getting a lift down but same principle) for a few hr shift but then thats the nature of the business and if they will insist on "paying the rent" who am I to refuse... Looks like will be a busy summer for gigs as seasons been double booked, promoters booked other London venues with the mind that Wembley Stadium wouldnt be finished, the fact that it has means a whole summer calendar of additional gig dates so busy busy busy, plus the usual festival and summer events. I told myself that if I didnt have things sorted by Early-Mid May then I would scrap the idea of finding anything full time/"proper job" related, crew the summer while in a short(ish) summer housing contract in Sheffield and then start again properly towards the end of the contract. The more crew work I get offered/the more I dont hear back (or get rejections) from applications the more I think why the hell do I bother. Then on the flip side I see a job that looks really interesting, email in about it get a call immediately asking for more details and if I'd mind my CV being submitted (as has just happened) and I think maybe it is worth continuing the hunt. Oh I hate this, I just want to be able to have a little bit of certainty about the near future :-/

On a more fun note spent 10hrs on tues setting up and ground rigging for Dancing on Ice/Torvil and Dean at the Arena, a most novel n interesting experience trying to rig 800or so ft of truss and lighting while standing/slipsliding around on a full size ice rink! lol A hell of a good lighting crew all of whom I knew and get on with making a very enjoyable day (refer back to the above job hunt/why do I bother reference) and what could have been a ball ache loadout yest fairly good. Bizarre thing is they apparently come back again in a week or so time to repeat the whole thing!

On a slightly more odd note the topic of Brazil, me, Claire and future came up the other week, a note to ALL suggest avoiding the subject if any situation brings up related topics... Things are still good (so no one worry! lol) but might get a little awkward and odd in coming months so that anyone related or close to us knows and is warned thats all.

On a lighter note, am prob going to try and get the the flat'o'geek party this eve, and have been asked to go to a post-TSC-Training social at poptarts 2moz note sure yet, working city hall on sun and then its the TSC formal on mon. In addition down to work a stupid amount at city hall next week so if see me im likely to be lookin more nackered than normal! lol

» Argh!

About all I can say about this job hunting lark, Im getting v v UNHAPPY and BORED of it! Im making this post for couple of reasons, one is simply excuse to try out my new icon that I made when I was a little bored lol Pics are taked when I was stood on the stage (to the side) at the Derby gig last summer :-) Im also making this post as an excuse to not job hunt and Im goin to complete the task by taking a break and head for town for a wonder.... oh well :-(

» Just a quicky then... ;-)
Ok in progressing the hunt for a job/career I have been using some of the usual sites however I think someone has been taking the P*ss (with a capital P!) with this entry. Just trawling through the jobs on monster and came across this and had to share... :-)

» An update at last...
For those that care and for the one person who I know will continue to bug me for one until I actually do here is a little update.

Much, much has been going on and yet still feels bored as hell! Having got back from a great new year trip to France with the Hallam clan I found myself in the same work situation as was the case before going, i.e. NONE! Solution: 3-4weeks of solid full time job hunting during the day and resorting to going back to City Hall during the night :-/ I keep telling myself its paying the rent, its paying the rent!

Result of all this job hunting, about 30-40 odd applications being submitted to everything and anything that caught my eye that my qualifications let me apply for, from Chocolate Technician (as it says on the can) to firing/electro-explosives technician for an MoD subsection(again as fun a job as it sounds!) Biggest problem I've found tho is that work is pretty much south, v v little up this way and so looks like if I get an offer its going to be away from the city I had hoped to stay in, in fact more than likely London which is one place I really had hoped to avoid... :-/

Result of the applications so far...:

2 test/interviews in London
2-3 rejections
Leaving 25-30+ to reply or ignore me, most likely mid-feb before hear from a lot of them if at all...

So the 2 test ones, a glutton for punishment I managed to get them both timetabled in for last friday so off to London I trot on thurs for tests and a wknd with Claire.

Test 1:
ATC - Air Traffic Controller (Bournmouth then prob Swanwick)
One of the most intense and competitive training programmes out there so I went with the frame of mind, "I've got nothing to lose and its an experience at the end of the day". Well an experience it defo was, 4 hours and 7 or so tests later and I left feeling a little bruised and straight onto interview 2. Although all the tests were multi-choice options they were the ultimate in speed rounds (eg. 40 q's in 5 mins) and v similar options, everything from pycho-analysis to numerical to spacial awareness.

Result: Find out within the next 10 or so days, if get through to 2nd round then will be big WOW (not holding breath) and that will be even more intense full day of tests and interviews. If successful then that goes to either a 3rd round or straight through to training in Bournmouth which lasts 15-18months, during which could be booted off at any point. I really have to ask myself AM I MAD (please dont even bother answerin that), tho I think you have to be to do a job where they schedule shifts of 1hr followed by 30min break due to being so stressful!

Test2:
International Corporate Information (London, pos followed with international position) - Job variable depending on person
Recreate a word document and then a powerpoint document each within an hour and to an exact specification, harder than it sounds especially when the documents are pretty extensive and the specification can be a little obscure...

Result: Email today, passed well within their margins and now want to discuss roles suited to me within the company... argh! Dilemma, do I take whatever they offer and shift my entire life to London with the posibility of it goin tits up or do I wait and see what else might come up in the next month or so... Nothing actually confirmed yet but might as well be :-/

As for life in general other than the above pretty dull tho hopefully things will pick up soon :-)

Ok been a while and this isn't going to be much of a post as although have a fair bit to update on what with going to Claire's for a week, parents and brother visiting and 2 TV/DVD/social parties in a weekend, I dont have the time for one so instead im just going to pop up a few piccies which I took on mob, and as such, and partly due to low light levels, they arent great quality for a couple of quality moments hehe (mostly for Titch's benefit I think :-) soz but yet to sort out a fotopic site)

one day ill find the time to properly update lol :-) oh and on a final and by no means least important note Claire got back from Brazil safely this morn yay!! :-)
» (No Subject)
Well few things happened this week...

weds: X-factor live up at arena, "shoot-me-now" was the general opinion of both local and touring crew, you had to feel kinda sorry for them I guess...?! lol at least was paid

thurs: Goldfrapp in Octagon, pretty good gig with Hotchip in support who for all their bizarre geeky appearances were very good. As for Alison well moody cow came to mind, what artist honestly waits till song 8 to even just say hello to the audience that have all paid good money to be there!? Followed by a quick thanks and exit at the end.

fri: Punter to UG, left by 2:30 but good sets all round till then :-)

sat: slept till 1:30ish! then found myself proof reading an essay for a course mums taking oh well when asked I spose...

sun: slept till 3! what is it with weekends recently, once again no work to speak of done, damn!

mon: Lecture in about 20mins then some work then home to get ready for Flicks do this eve, looking forward to chance to see ppl again :-)

the rest of this week I think has to be work work work and nothing else as serious catch up needed! Only couple of hall tours this wk nothing arena, uni or city hall work tho and then Claire here on fri-mon! YAY!! :-D busy weekend ahead...

and a HAPPY BDAY to Lux :-)
» quick update...
bout time for one at least... :-)

nothing much happening other than too much uni work, but then only about 3months and then its all finished! yay :-) the plan will be to hold bit of an open houseparty then so keep your diaries free for about the 2nd wk of june cant say i didnt give some forwarning on this one can you??! :-P lol

A few things happening this week, arena crewing the x-factor live tour (great... at least its paid), and depending on how TSC meeting on mon goes then Goldfrapp on thurs, Alkaline trio on sat and will be going as a punter pos on fri to Urban Gorilla as some good DJ's playing n then Flicks party on mon (well hopefully if can sort out an outfit)

All for now I think...
» About time for an update I think...

Thought bout time to update :-)

Written and 2 oral exams last week and one on mon, think all went well enough except one of the vivas which by sat (it was on thurs!) I still felt burnt from the grilling Id had on it, I mean when you start getting questions like "So tell me why should I live on Mars as opposed to hollowing out an asteroid and living in there...?!", project is on terraforming Mars but still completely through me for being so obscure lol

So finished now except for a 2K essay for a wk fri which im hoping to have done before I go to London to see Lucy (old college friend) and Claire (well I think you all know who Im refering to with this one yay :-D) this weekend. Then its a "week off" to finish off any of the essay not yet done and to start working properly on my dissertation project (re: Mars above!)

Ok looked back at past posts and reaslised quite how long its been since last posted (2 weeks time goes oh so fast!) so I thought that it was about time for a quick update for any bods interested in reading :-)

Various gigs and events have followed including guestlist to Turin Brakes gig with a mate of mine (which was pretty good even tho the rig did seem a little on the small side, good crowd/band interaction tho) followed by a trip to Tam's, stagemanaging starsailor gig which was very good, and went without a hitch although at times did feel was heading towards a minor failure! Motorhead at city hall and a variety of other minor events. Other than that it has been fairly unexciting with essays amounting to about 12K-15K words all to be handed in in about 4wks! argh!

Last week was reading week which was good even if it did feel a little on the short side! Started with a trip to Hamburg, Germany which was informative (if a little dull at times) and made even better by the fact that the accommodation and travel was all paid for by the department :-) Trip was to go and see a particle accellerator called DESY out there as part of one of my courses as well as to turn it into a bit of a jolly! Advice if you want to go shopping with a fat wallet then go to Hamburg, if you want to go to a German city and sample the local 'produce' then dont bother it took us about 30mins to find a pub/bar and that was an Irish one which was ripping everyone off, and the 2nd turned out to be a small Gay bar (which was empty so none of us realised until we looked at the upcoming events list on our way out! lol)

Thurs and fri was spent cleaning the house (as came back to find that housemates had been lazy grrr (!) I ask them to do one or two jobs and clean up after themselves and do they...?!) and going to a meeting or two and then the moment of truth my first party hosted by me :-D Fri eve was spent with a small group of friends in Wokmania where a reasonably nice meal was had (however amazingly filling on smaller than expected platefulls...) followed by a lift back to mine where I was shortly joined by a completely different group of friends, I think most people enjoyed themselves and I feel that it was a pretty good success (even if certain ppl did disappear strangly and housemates as expect totally disappeared (I dont think you guys scared them...:-p lol)) Bonus of the night (tho expected) was that Clare came up from London, and was great to see her again. Even tho most people left by 2(ish) we still found ourselves talking at about 5ish! What with Clare having to catch a bus to the train station at about 10:15 not much sleep was had! Sat was spent working on essay and finally got some headway done on one of them, yay! Was planning on joining the social that eve but got a reasonably early night instead as was NACKERED!

Sun slept in till about 1:30pm! Glad of the 13+hrs sleep as opposed to the usual 5-6, little more refreshed, however the planned afternoon of work was interupted... PC issues which might interest some but probs not most... )

Thanks to all who came to the party and made it enjoyable too many to list on here tho :-D

Too much has happened since the last post to put all here and sure most of you aren't that interested anyway! Suffice to say ive been too busy to post!

Collection of too much uni work, combined with too much working at City Hall, and a little extra TSC and Arena thrown in for good measure. Although not going into detail about the last wk or two I am going to have to mention the last wknd as was interesting (but good) to say the least.

Fri - Busy day with lectures and things, followed by trip to city hall to work little folk gig down there Francis Dunnery (dont know who has heard of him, but very good), then up to the union to drop in on the opening night of UG there, only stayed for about an hr or so but looked and sounded good. Home and bed!

Sat - Up at stupid'o'clock to be at the arena for 8am, loading for the Four Tops/Temptations gig on there, smallest rig I have ever seen at Arean, in fact some of the Octagon gigs made it look small, about 1.5 44ft trucks and a catering van (later turning into 2 truck fulls and no van), still took a while to unload and ring for some reason, tho I have worked with the lampies before and nice to be REQUESTED out of the crew that were there. Cycle back to the City center, killed some time and then went to meet Clare from the station, instead find that Misha and Charlotte were on there (in fact had travelled in the same carriage as her just that they didnt know it as never have met!) Found Clare eventually, we also found roguish_scholar there as well, which neither of us were expecting, headed to interval, where waited for little_pink_one. Eventually headed off to Eccie Rd to meet up with Clare/Tom's friends (one of whom's bday it was and the main reason she was in Shef), Tom and Mary headed for Becky's while I stuck round with them for a bit. Time came tho when had to head back to the Union pick up bikeas parked there and back to arena for loadout which took a stupid amount of time compared to what it should have, case of being first night of tour and no one knowing what the pack order was!

Sun - Lie in and then to Mappin Street IT suite to write up presentation for today, call mid avo tho, "what you doing this eve, fancy some paid work in town, peace gardens at 8", well should prob have said no and gone to film/interval with everyone else, instead due to it being first gig with that company and would like to get on books for possible future work I said yes. Left peace gardens at about 2:15 this morn!

Mon - Give my presentation/half lecture at 10, TSC meeting at 1, homework all this avo, city hall this eve, pos then go out and join the union link social thing at GAME? afterwards dont know yet...

Summary over now for a couple of clearups (maybe) and questions (certainly)...

1. Why o why does London have to be so far away...?!
2. Tam you remember that challenge you set me (ish) well think sort of there... (take call yest and put 2+2=4 tho ill ttyl)
3. Party is still on just waiting to hear from some ppl (you know who you are!) as to if can make it or not (planning on a meal before hand at Wokmania as have mentioned to some in past if you want else straight to mine :-D)

good weekend, in fact reasonable week in general, seen ppl, had lectures gone to beer fest with others... finishing with a very lazy Sunday. Was hoping this week would be the same, not likely the way its started! Just got email concerning 4th Masters astronomy project, not great. I shall set the scene, last week we were asked to pick 3 titles from a list of 6 (not much choise really) n rank in order of preference. Now taking out one lecturer that I know I would not have bween able to work with brings list down to 4. One of these I am then told involves so much work that you will have to work in a pair... bring list to choose 3 from a list of 3... again great selection isnt it?!! So I pick my 3 (haha!) and order them, asignments made email comes back as follows:

""I am writing to let you know that you have been assigned the 4th year project 'Terraforming Mars', with Dr. Goodwin as your supervisor.""

New lecturer who seems quite cool and I think I will get on with him but issue is with project not him.

""I know that this is your third choice, your first and second being projects with Dr. de Grijs. However, another student (Alasdair Robertson) signed up for exactly the same preference list as you. The policy of the department is to spread project supervision loads evenly, so it is not possible for you both to be assigned to Dr. De Grijs working separately. Furthermore, the Terraforming Mars project is computational in nature, and you are more suitable for this project than the other student as you have already taken the programming course.""

Bull! Out of the 6 projects 3 were put forward by de Grijs, if they knew he wouldnt be able to handle at least 2 students why let him suggest it...?! It is also the policy of the department to be fair to all students, and for all masters students to have completed the c++ module (read programming course) in either their 2nd or 3rd yr, as in compulsory. This Robertson guy has not completed the course with us but has come in from some where else, obviously where it is not compulsory, for all I know he might be a genius in coding but just didnt like the look of the project, it does not mean that the uni knows this... I believe that this is being kinda biased in the method of picking projects dont you?!

""Can I recommend that you meet with Dr. Goodwin to discuss the project? I have only just met Simon myself, but he seems very engaged and enthusiastic and somebody who I myself would not mind working with. I hope that everything works out. Come and see me if you wish to discuss this more.""

Ditto! I hav spoken to him before and seems nice enough. I haver just emailed the guy who sent me this I just hope I dont sound too blunt in my reply... My main worry is that from the sounds of it this project is going to be similar in structure to that of my planned 3rd yr one, which went tits up big time and I had to start a new one in following semester, I dont have that option this time! grrr!
» ITS MY...
....BIRTHDAY! :-D 22 today, and a happy bday to Morv as well :-)

nothin major planned as said in previous post, couple of drinks with friends in the interval and then prob head off to the house party this eve.

Have spoken to lecturer about the project titles he is offering and looks, like if I get choose and then get one of them, I will be working on an original piece of research which would make a change and be kinda cool :-D tho a lot of DAMN HARD work!

ok so about time for a quick update I think...

mon night ended up at Earnshaw hall helping out with their lighting for the disco on there, no probs nice and simple and got free meal out of it :-D

Tues morn was spent rigging stage for McFly, with the stage being bigger than their egos! 8 ppl took 5hours to start on it and when we left (end of call) still had to be finished off by next shift of crew! OTT doesnt cover it! Then that night I was back at the arena as a steward, dealing with screaming girls, thank god for the invention of earplugs!!

Weds eve was spent on the McFly de-rig.

Thurs back at Earnshaw, again to help with lights this time I had a couple of "Mac250's" to play with tho naff compared to union ones, as well as a lighting desk that had never used before, managed to get both lights working with it but no presets programmed so fully opped, tho only a bedroom band so nothin big.

Fri was knocking around Earnshaw again (what they gave me a hall card for the week free 'food') left earlyish with the current standin JCR president, who happened to be goin to a houseparty, I tagged along didnt know anyone there, bit of a random party but a laugh...

Sat was the biggie at Tam's on behalf of Misha. Inc in the night was the suprise phonecall from Charlotte saying that she was nearby but lost, collection and suprise ensued! :-D I actually had a 'bit' to drink.... Ill leave it at that, and altho was only a bit tipsy I think the pink wine (and I norm hate wine!) went to my stomach making me feel pretty damn rough, I would have been fine had I just stuck to the rum!! lol A note to all: I DO NOT PLAN TO BE REPEATING THIS, DO NOT TAKE IT AS A SIGN THAT CHANGE IS ON THE WAY!!!

Sun....Slept and relaxed, followed by a pretty productive housemeeting seeing as everyone was in for once...shock horror!

Mon back to lectures (well the one lec at least), meetings and things followed and now Im off home. Have to decide on astronomy project and directed reading project by end of week from a reasonable list. One option that I am looking at would involve coding a simulation for the terraforming of Mars... could be interesting but Im just wondering if my coding is up to scratch to do it, R&D this sem on topic and then practical on it next sem, so if cant do have to decide now! argh!

Also as a follow up note, if anyone is at all interested that is and doesnt already know, it is my 22nd 2moz (as well as it being Morv's I know). I am however, due to this latter point amongst a few, delaying any celebrations for a week or so. I am looking to however at some point go for a meal down at the new wokmania on west street if anyone would like to join me (Ive heard some good reviews and it seems reasonablly priced) at some point. This would hopefully be followed with a few drinkies at mine :-) dates/times yet to be sorted when I know when ppl will be about but this is just a forewarning, however if not many respond then I guess Ill just leave it lol cheers

Amazing, Climax went off without a hitch thankfully due to an experienced crew :-) (only 4 ppl with Sirey dropping in between octagon duties) finished well in advance of doors which was nice :-) Managed to persuade (guestlist involved) locked out friend Sean to go and who seemed to really enjoy himself which I was a little suprised at, tho pleased to see as he has had a few stresses recently.

Sat I went up to Sorby where helped out with moving new freshers into their rooms and what have you, then headed to union where worked poptarts. Home about 4ish, about 1 hrs kip then sorted myself out to go to arena for 7am to go to Leeds to work moving ppl into their uni halls. Easy work, and as much tea and biscuits as I liked! lol

So all in all about 6-7hrs sleep in 3days so Im a little tired! Met last of housemates, not sure what to make of him yet as not really spoken to him, tho I recon he will be ok if a little strange :-p lol

today went to TSC meeting at 1 which was more of a "get things off your chest" event, bringing up loads off issues to Pete who attended as well, things look like they might be improving but we shall just have to wait. Not sure what am up to this eve, if you know of anything happening or fancy meeting up then I should be about and you have my no! :-p nothing too late I dont think as have to be at arena at 9 2moz morn to work, grrr... money I spose

Interesting set of events unfolded yesturday which anyone on here who actually bothers with these posts will prob already know about as they almost certainly were there last night. While on phone a mate tried to ring, thinking was just going to ask about going out that eve (he didnt know about the Titch party) I cancelled the call and txted him later, however before I had a chance to get a reply the afore mentioned mate knocks at the door looking a bit wet and bedraggled! Transpires he has managed to lock himself out of his house leaving his wallet and all keys inside, with all his housemates away till this sat! Yes you can stay a few nights....

This left a little problem, what to do, does he stay with my overly worked housemates who were not exactly in an entertaining mood or take him to Tich's... solution meet the rabble!! :-D Party went smoothly enough, even got me trying many different drinks, have decided tho that Strongbow is defo not for me, did not do nice things to system! grrr :-( tho did end up making good cocktails inc the infamous BLUE ONE (which was a sort of pinkie colour) with Sarah. (I might be the sober one but I seem to have a nack for cocktails sometimes lol) Part of night was spent in more deep and interesting conversation with Tam.... nuff said but thanks mate :-D Night also involved rescuing Laura and Jenny from Walkley highstreet as they didnt seem to have a clue as to how to find the house!! lol oh well I spose its a bit hard when you have never even really been to Walkly at all :-p

Phone call at about 20:00 yest meant that I was now officially SM'in climax at the union, however informed that the in was 16:00 and not 18:00 due to members of the crew wanting to head off to the end of senior training meal bash thing, thanks guys you really make me feel wanted, once again I am left to fend an event while others b*gger off to have fun...! grrr! (tho I said I would be willing if pushed for crew I guess but I didnt think that everyone would be deserting me!) Also means that I wont be able to go to the social with peeps this eve, another grrr! let the weekend of hell and no sleep begin!

btw Tam, will try.... :-p lol

hell its been busy and its just started...!

Thurs last week was a trip over to Tams, where much fun was had, introduced to couple new ppl, inc. Tom's sister whom like myself and unlike everyone else in the room was not a RPGer or D&Der... etc. and so we got talking... a lot! To which certain ppl dropped a couple of hints or comments (thanks..!), we were just being friendly, even if at times no one would have been able to understand what we were talking about at all! lol Spirit also seemed to take great delight in sharing our laps! :-) Need it be said a pretty late night was had by all.

Fri followed with a trip to the arena to work the boxing match there, call at 09:30 turned it from a 17:30 start to a 13:00 start, not complaining tho 4.5hrs more pay for doing hardly anything... no change to the RS way there then! Should have finished about 23:15 instead left at 00:30! Quick phone call revealed Tom's party still had some life in it so bombed it over there, Arena to Hunters bar in about 30mins on a push bike aint bad I dont think! :-D On arriving I think I pleased/worried a couple of ppl (Tam...! :p) with a quick top change and then collapsed to get breath back! Guess who conversation ended up being mainly with...yeah Claire (well thats the way it felt, I hope didnt give/get any ideas?) left late with couple of ppl, ending with Ant and I in a weird philosophical conversation about our views on some odd things, even odder was that as usual I was sober tho he was pretty drunk :-D Bed about 03:30

Had to be at Arena by 10am, ugh! Know where your coming from Tam! Weekend spent working the Proms in the park (Hyde Park, London), nothing amazing to report, other than it being kinda strange doing bag searches on the Sun, as most of them were kiddie bags...! Back by about midnight sun.

Monday, slept in yay! Tho that eve headed off to Arena again, working second pit area for the Stereophonics gig there, good sound wise, but from what I got to see of the stage now and again, was amazing lighting rig, lots of pretty lights that I WANT TO PLAY WITH! Cycle home tiring as always, bed about 1ish.

Back into the Octagon at ~9am for Real Big Fish rig, only took about 4-4.5hrs, only slightly bigger than a maxed out FUZZ rig, most of truck flat pack on wheels, nice and easy until got to PA system, ugh! Big and heavy, so the out was slower than would have liked, nackered by the end, tho good sound, even if I could stand at the back and see over most of the heads in there, most of the punters cant have been over 16! Tho I think I ended up with most of the injuries for the rest of the crew, cut finger (which someone then decided to crush with a piece of pit barrier, scraped up arm from someone not watching what they were doing due unpacking of the 40 footer truck, grrr! To finish things off I then (muppet I know), on entering back into the octagon walked into a fire door that had started to swing shut in the pitch black, nearly knocking me out. Nice red bump half inch off forehead!

Woke this morn, hardly could move, body seized! Got up late and now sitting in the workspace (gallery) about to go down to a small TSC social in the Raynor Lounge (Cupboard for those not of the old school!)

Plans till mon, have to be at pondsforge at stupid o'clock (7am) 2moz morn to work some event there, not even really sure what yet tho. Only till lunchtime tho, then 2moz night will find me at Ants and Rich's for his b'day gathering which should be good. Fri I am as far as I know working (pos SM'in) climax at the Union, then sat helping with moving new freshers into Sorby, followed by crewing poptarts, which prob wont get back from till about 3:30ish. Dont think will be goin to bed due to having to be at Arena to go to Leeds at 7:30am to work something up at the Uni halls there... and im sure there is something Im meant to be goin to Sun eve, pos with housemates as last one of them gets back sat, I will be back to Zombie land by mon I promise you! lol

bored sat in sorby ITS waiting for a day of tours round halls to start. Its usually a laugh as long as the people coming actually look like they want to be here! Its paid so thats a good thing I guess.... :-) Tired as had the worst nights sleep had in a long time, bed at 11 thinking an "early" night would do me good, by about 1:30am was still awake, got up had drink watched some tv.... still didnt get to sleep till about 3:30/4 this morn! Please tell me Im NOT becoming even more of an insomniac!? ahhh! some work this weekend thankfully, boxing at the arena and then proms in the park sat and sun which should be interesting... then what should be working Stereophonics gig on mon.

Weekend was boring other than the joyful gathering at Blazing's tho Im sorry for the singing... :-p lol
followed by a walk back to Walkley with Ant where we met Rich and at last I managed to get to see the rats yay :-D Seemed to like my hair almost as much as Ants as well! lol

Success I have at last managed to attend one of Tam's infamous parties :-) lol was good, interesting to meet a load of new ppl (and Angel IM NOT GAY! lol) bank hol mon was spent in meadowhell with couple of new housemates who were heading out that way and I was bored enough to be willing to suffer MH! Its amazing how the more specific the object you are looking at is the smaller the place becomes, I mean if you are in for a browse (or clothes shopping with a female friend!) the place is HUGE, but if looking for some physical examples of digital cameras (been hunting them out on the web tho wanted to see IRL) there only appears to be a couple of shops manned by ppl who seem to know less about them than me and are just interested in an opportunity to play with the shiney buttons on the gadgets, real help there!

Btw if anyone can recommend a specific camera or make, or know of any that are known to have faults feel free to get in touch :-) (have some ideas but the list changes by the day!)
